Best neighborhoods in Prague

When planning a relocation, it is crucial to understand which is the best area to stay in, and this is particularly true when it is time to purchase a flat in Prague. Likewise all cities, the main things to decide are the priorities and where to find a home that is close to the places necessary to meet all needs: in simple words, analyze which are the best services in the different areas of Prague.

The best neighborhoods to stay in are Smíchov, Vinohrady e Žižkov. They represent quiet and ideal areas to live, with schools, pharmacies, supermarkets, and all the essential services needed to live in serenity.

Smíchov is an industrial and residential area of Prague, located on the west bank of the Vltava river. Famous for its shopping centers, cinemas, restaurants, pubs, and nightlife. There are also numerous parks: the largest is Kinského zahrada, which extends to the south side of Petřín Hill. The main and busiest area is the one around Anděl stop, where the tram lines and metro B intersect. In front of it, there is one of the biggest shopping centers in Prague, Nový Smíchov, and the Multiplex CinemaCity.

Vinohrady is a lovely residential area including parts of Prague 2, 3, and 10. It takes the name from the vineyards cultivated here from the XIV century. The principal streets of this district are Vinohradská, Korunní and Francouzská, all serviced by tram and metro lines from the city center. Náměstí Míru (Peace Square) is the principal tourist attraction, dominated by the neo-gothic Church of St Ludmilla. Vinhorady also has numerous parks where it is possible to relax and escape the traffic: the largest is Riegrovy sady in the north, known for its beautiful sunset, and Havlíčkovy sady in the south.

Žižkov, today, is the most energetic, dynamic, and innovative district of Prague, known for its countless pubs and restaurant. In the past, it was called “Red Žižkov” for the large presence of workers. Today the entire area is undergoing major works and redevelopment. The symbol of the neighborhood is the TV Tower, 216 meters high, visible from all over Prague, on its panoramic terraces it is possible to enjoy a 360 sight of the city.

Other central quarters such as Stare Mesto (Old Town), Mala Strana (Little Quarter), Újezd, Hradcany (the Castle Area), and Nove Mesto (New Town) are easily accessible, thanks to Prague’s cheap and efficient metro and tram system.
